Aurora, March 17, 2015. St. Patrick's Day this year treated people to a lovely green sky in the form of northern lights. I took this image from the field in front of our home in rural southern Ontario at 10:22 p.m. Northern lights activity has been rather subdued the past couple of years despite the fact that we are at the peak of the solar activity cycle. It was great to see this display unfold during the evening. The small red light on the horizon is on Cape Croker, which is about 20 km to the north.
A photograph combining over an hour of aurora activity and star trails from this evening is available here.
